Blackthorn is a three-chair studio behind a plain black door in Peckham. We opened in 2016 to do two things properly — fine line and blackwork — and we have not added a third since.

HOW A BOOKING WORKS

Send the enquiry form with a reference or two, the placement and a rough size. We match you to the artist whose work suits it and book a free twenty-minute consultation, in the studio or on a video call. A £60 deposit holds your date and comes off the final price. Move the date with a week's notice and the deposit moves with you.
WHAT IT COSTS

Small pieces are charged at the studio minimum of £120, which covers setting up and the first hour. Anything longer runs at £600 for a full day of up to six hours, or £350 for a half day. Cover-ups and reworks are quoted after the consultation, because the piece already there decides the work. Prints and gift vouchers are sold at the counter.

Three artists work here and each one draws their own designs. You meet the person who is going to tattoo you before the needle comes out, and that is the same person who answers your emails afterwards. Nobody hands your appointment down the line.

Aftercare fits on one side of paper and we hand it to you on the day. Keep the wrap on for the first few hours, wash it twice a day with unscented soap, pat it dry, and use a thin layer of the balm we give you. No pools, no baths and no direct sun for two weeks.
You must be eighteen or over to be tattooed here, and we ask for photo ID at every appointment, regulars included. We do not tattoo hands, necks or faces on a first visit, and we will say no to a design we do not think will still read clearly in twenty years.
We do not copy another artist's work. Bring references by all means — a photograph, a pattern, something you have saved — and we will draw something of our own from them. If you want an exact copy of a tattoo you have seen, the artist who made it is the person to ask.
